Today was a welcome chance to rest (and snooze a bit too!). Ian was with dad for most of the day and they visited Buildwas Abbey (got a taxi instead of cycling there!). The weather was very wet, but it was still interesting (this photo is from gallery.nen.gov.uk – their view was through driving rain!). More info on Buildwas from http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/buildwas-abbey/
They also met up with Ian’s son Adam then they were joined by 2 of Adam’s friends who are currently cycling John O’Groats to Land’s End (in 13 days). Between them they’ve helped dad to identify some changes he can make to his routines to make things a bit easier – a lighter pack, morning stretches, other exercises and more hydration during the day… hopefully these things will help as dad sets off on the next leg of the journey.
Tomorrow sees the challenge of navigating out of Ironbridge and about 55 miles to Nantwich. Five days cycling and then another rest day on Saturday, when he’ll be staying with friends near Carlisle before heading into Scotland next Sunday.
Many thanks for all of the wishes and the ongoing support – dad really appreciates it 🙂
